The Coaching Table
Already know the basics? Build confidence through coached, real-time gameplay.
Class Description
Ready to move beyond the basics and start feeling comfortable at the table? This guided play session is designed for players who understand the fundamentals of American Mah Jongg and want more practice with expert support. In this 2-hour class, you’ll play full hands of Mah Jongg with instructors actively coaching throughout the game. Rather than stopping for lectures, guidance is woven into real play so concepts make sense in context. We’ll focus on: Strengthening your ability to read and choose a hand from the card Understanding when to pivot if a hand isn’t developing Building confidence with calling tiles, exposure, and Charleston decisions Recognizing common beginner pitfalls and how to avoid them Improving game flow, pace, and table confidence Classes are kept intentionally small, with an instructor-to-student ratio of no more than 1:8, allowing for individualized feedback and plenty of questions. This class is ideal for: Students who have completed an Intro to American Mah Jongg class New players who know the rules but want guided, low-pressure practice Anyone who wants to feel more confident joining open play or social games Please note: A current National Mah Jongg League card is required (not included). Tiles and game equipment are provided. Snacks and beverages are not provided; feel free to bring your own drink or non-messy snack. This session is where understanding turns into confidence and where many players feel the game truly starts to click.
